Prepositions

In class this week we have been learning prepositions.  These are words that describe the location of an item (e.g. on top of,  underneath, behind, in front of, beside, to the left of, to the right of).

These are quite hard to remember in Spanish.  This Space Invaders game will help you revise.  Use the arrow keys to move left and right, and the space bar to shoot.

Las habitaciones

Next in Unit 4 we learn the rooms of the house (pp.64-65).

Games to play ...

1. http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/rgshiwyc/school/curric/Spellmaster/Spanish/Rooms/jigword2.html  A matching activity on rooms.

2. http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/rgshiwyc/school/curric/Spellmaster/Spanish/Rooms/match2.html  A 'concentration' game on rooms.

3. http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/rgshiwyc/school/curric/Spellmaster/Spanish/Rooms/speedword2.html   A 'speedword' spelling game.  Choose your speed - fast, faster or furious!

4. http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/rgshiwyc/school/curric/Listen/Spanish/Casa/jigsound1.html  A short listening activity - listen to each clip and identify the room.

4. Here is a Spanish song for children called 'Mi Casa'.  Listen carefully - there should be lots of words that you understand!  Listen for the names of rooms as well describing words from earlier in the chapter.

El verbo VIVIR

The verb 'vivir' means 'to live'.  As with all Spanish verbs, there are six parts of the verb - you choose the correct verb part to show WHO is doing the action.

The game below requires you to select the correct part of the verb 'vivir' to put in the gap.  You will have to think carefully!

For example:

Mi padre ____ en Italia.  Your Dad is 'he', so you would choose 'vive'
Mis amigos _____ en Inglaterra.  Your friends are 'they', so you would choose 'viven'
Mi madre y yo ____ en Gales.  My Mum and I = we (because you are part of the group) - 'vivimos'.

¿Cómo es tu casa?

In Unit 4 we learn how to describe where we live.  This involves describing where your house is located (in the countryside, a town, a city, in the mountains, by the coast) as well as describing your house (big, small, pretty, modern, old, a flat, etc.)

Good games ...

1.http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/rgshiwyc/school/curric/Spanish/Cam1Uni4/Caminos1Unidad4i.htm  This is a  matching activity to get you started.

2. A great game - find the teacher with the right answer and hit them with a hammer!

Los países ...

The first thing we do in Unit 4 is to learn the names of 11 European countries in Spanish.  Note that the map below refers to Reino Unido (UK) but in class we learned Inglaterra (England), Escocia (Scotland) and Gales (Wales).  We also learned España, Portugal, Irlanda, Alemania, Francia, Italia, Grecia and Polonia.

Some great games to play ...

http://www.spanish-games.net/spanishvocabulary  This is a great website for practising countries.  Select 'World' as your topic and then you can choose 'European Countries'.  You can have a lesson first before doing the games.

http://oye.languageskills.co.uk/beginner/year7/12737.html  Lots of good games on countries listed here - free to use after 4pm.

http://www.toporopa.eu/es/paises_de_europa.html   This one will really test your Geography as well as your Spanish!  It's quiz which asks you to locate the country named in Spanish by clicking on the map.  It does include all the countries of Europe including several we haven't learned in class - good for learning extra vocabulary!

Describing People

This week we are looking at how to describe people. Here is the word wall we used in class ... a really good way to practise this topic is to write as many sentences as possible from the wall. I am happy to correct any work you do at home!
